Our clients group has been established since 1981 and are well known for their kind, family feel practice near Torquay. They now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join the team.

This is a dedicated, busy SA first opinion practice. They all have a share of responsibilities here, spending time between surgical, medical and nurse clinic duties to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge. If you have a particular area of interest, they want to support you to pursue your passion. They like to encourage nurse clinics at all the practices and they’re open to new ideas to expand and improve this service for clients.

There are 4 practices within the group, based in the Newton Abbot / Torquay area of South Devon. They sit directly between the spectacular Tors of Dartmoor and the un-rivalled South Devon Coastline with its fabulous beaches just a short hop away.

The main Hospital and Referrals Centre is located on the edge of a picturesque village, offering both 1st Opinion and Referral services. They are open 24 hours a day for in-patient care. All of the practices have great facilities including in-house haematology and biochemistry, a medical standard fan beam CT Scanner, an ultrasound/endoscopy suite, digital X-ray and digital dental X-ray. All practices are RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accredited so you can be certain that they like to promote and maintain the very highest standards of care. There is a dedicated night & weekend team so if those shifts are of particular interest to you, they are happy to discuss this with you. The referral hospital has a Diplomat-led Ophthalmology service as well as undertaking Orthopaedic Referrals, Outpatient CTs and Laparoscopic bitch spays and provides 24hr hospital in-patient care.

The team of 9 Vets are supported by 15 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Student Veterinary Nurses, and a fabulous reception team, all led by their hard-working Practice Managers and Practice Director who are on hand to support everyone. The nurses carry out daily consults and schedule 3 work, many of whom are certificate holders with special interests. They also assist the Vets in clinics to maximise patient care and client support opportunities.

Day-to-day Nurse duties include:
  • Nurse clinics
  • Lab work
  • Supporting the Vets in surgery – (placing IV lines, taking blood, monitoring anaesthetics, setting up fluids, assisting with radiographs / CT’s ).
  • Providing in-patient care.
The full time role is full-time week is based over 40 hour, and they support flexible working so happy to chat about what you’re looking for.
You would be required to take part in the Saturday morning rota with time off in lieu given, currently 1 in 8. There are no on-call or out-of-hours shifts, but they do provide their own out-of-hours inpatient care.
